Mahabadi woman goes to jail over celebrating Referendum

MAF NEWS – Runak Aqaee, a social activist from Mahabad who was sentenced to six month in jail by Iranian Revolutionary Court over celebrating Kurdistan Region’s independence referendum has reportedly presented herself to jail on Wednesday.

According to the Center of Democracy and Human Rights in Kurdistan, Aqaee was arrested in September 25 (on the day of the referendum,) when she was celebrating the referendum, dancing and holding Kurdish flag.

Aqaee was also arrested in 80s and spent five years in jail over “having relationship with Kurdish (opposition) parties.”
